One of the highest priority programmes on the Sellafield site is the safe retrieval of legacy waste from the Magnox Swarf Storage Silo (MSSS). An integral part of this programme is the selection of a robotic manipulator suitable to meet the demanding operational and environmental requirements. The manipulator plays a critical role within the Silo Emptying Plant (SEP) cave in handling tools, conducting wash downs and the size reduction of waste materials.
Tenet’s highly skilled subject matter experts were integrated within Sellafield Ltd’s overall Manipulators Project team, providing engineering capability to lead the development and selection of a manipulator suitable for the MSSS Retrievals Programme. Tenet’s Project Engineering Manager (PEM) took a pivotal role to direct, control and coordinate the project, technical, engineering and capability group resources to provide a cohesive plan to deliver a number of manipulator work-streams with options presented to the client.
